My Opinion on Nintendo
My feelings about Nintendo are mixed—there’s a clear contrast between its past and present. When people bring up Nintendo, my mind drifts to two extremes: the frustrations of today’s gaming industry and the brilliance of its earlier days. For example—and I admit I may be a bit biased—the era of arcade machines, the NES, SNES, and N64 represents what I consider the golden age of gaming. These systems delivered experiences that defined entertainment for decades and still hold up even now.
Today, the conversation around Nintendo often involves repeated delays, rising game prices (some reaching $90), and divisive new hardware like the upcoming Switch successor. It's a far cry from what I call the “Nintendo Prime” era. Back then, prices were more accessible, the quality of the games—both in storytelling and technical achievement—was consistently high, and those games left a deep emotional mark on players of all generations. The phrase "They don't make 'em like they used to" really rings true, especially in today’s fast-paced and often frustrating gaming landscape.
Still, my love for classic Nintendo runs deep—right up there with the original Star Wars trilogy (pre-Disney). No amount of modern missteps can change the legacy those early games created. I miss the days when a $60 game meant something special. Anyone else remember that?
